I picked the opening sequence from the horror movie "Insidious."
It appears to use stringed instruments, mostly violins, and they are using the classic horror movie recipe of creepy dynamics and dissonance. (Remember, consonance is when notes blend well together, dissonance is when they do not.)
It sounds like the violin's pitches are descending quickly, starting with high notes and dropping the pitch in a wobbly, turbulent, unsettling way. When the text featuring the movie title pops up, there is an explosion of more dissonance and tension that gives me the creeps and makes me jump every time. This is a great example of using harsh sounds to make scary images even scarier.
(not sure if the first 1 went thru, but I like this song to)
ReplyDeleteSo I Picked this song(not sure the name) which is background music to a great scene in doctor who. As the scene intenses, so does the music.

ReplyDeleteI picked the theme song from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean."
The song is up beat, exciting and adventurous. It's played by an orchestra consisting of violins, trombone, trumpets, etc. The song is in D minor and does not have any dissonance. The dynamics are pretty loud and the tempo is fast.

Arianna Jaber The movie I picked was Freddy Krueger the night on elm street. I picked this movie because I love the slow tempo of the song and the low pitch to guide you to the killing scene. I also love how it dissonance in the song!

ReplyDeleteI chose the "riff-off" scene from the movie Pitch Perfect. I chose this because this is one of my favorite movies. Also, I like the way they transfer form one song to another. There are no instruments in this scene, it is all a Capella. Their voices come together in consonance.
This scene is very up-beat and cheerful.

ReplyDeleteThe song I chose was Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues from Rob Zombie's Halloween. I like music from the 70's and I am a fan of Rob Zombie so of course I had to choose a song from one of his movies. The song's tempo is slow but it picks up a bit. There is no dissonance, the song is in legato, and it is played in a minor key.
