Blog Assignment #4-Music from Film, TV, or Video Game

Post a youtube link to a song from film, TV, or a video game and describe why you chose the song.

Tell us how it makes you feel, and why the music is a great fit for the visual aspect.

I chose a song from the Dark Knight Rises. The composer is Hans Zimmer. The music in this scene adds a whole lot of tension and urgency. There are many big dynamic swells or "crescendos," that add to the overall mood. The brass and the percussion make the piece quite explosive. The chanting of the men in the pit compliments the intense orchestral arrangement underneath. It is a pivotal scene in the movie where Bruce Wayne faces his fears and comes out victorious. The composer uses silence @ 1:16 and it is very effective when the thunderous cheers come in with the music.

I do not know the name of this song but it is from a video game that I have. I feel that this song really goes well with the game because the game is about a zombies and decay and stuff like that so it works very well with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwDkutphzmU

-The song that i have picked is Protectors of Earth by two steps from hell. Their music is kind of like orchestra and sort of classical. You may be familiar with many of their songs because you probably heard them a lot of movies. The music is explosive and the dynamics always change.

This is A Message by Charlie Clouser and it is played in the movie death sentence which is one of my favorite of all time with Kevin bacon. In the movie this instrumental was so passionate and so sad, angry and inspirational it fit the movie perfectly. It gives me goosebumps every time i hear it. The woman's voice is beautiful and the tone hits everyone when first heard. The slow start to the intense ending can not get any better- Ty Tres

    Adele--->Skyfall

At the beginning it starts soft and slow. and before the chorus she crescendos, and she sings full on. After the chorus she continues to decrescendo. And these two steps are repeated about two times. This song was made for a James Bond Skyfall. I like the ending most because it starts off as very big and loud, but towards to end end it decrescendos very smoothingly.

How do I craft this again by InTheLittleWoods

This is an animation by the Yogscast for the video game Minecraft. The singer sings in a major pitch, but the song is more for comedic purposes, so it is probably not going to be sad.

  7. I have so many songs I like from movies that I couldn't choose just one. But it probably would be from a Disney movie, just because THEY ARE THE BEST! Like songs from Aladdin, Lion King, Toy story, etc. They are just so catchy to me. They are usually pretty happy and upbeat.

I chose the best scene from the movie Dragonball Z Coolers Revenge where Goku changes to his super form and fights him head on. I love the music choices because they add so much action and drama to the overall fight scene. Also it helps people to feel how Goku felt and how he was going to die saving his home. There is another great fighting scene in this film that I cannot not leave out. Click link.

This scene is also pretty awesome but not as much as the fight with cooler. Sure its not as dramatic but it adds a great feel to the fighting scenes, especially when Piccolo saved the boy Gohan. People should watch this movie because even from the beginning it has incredible music and great fighting scenes. I am going to choose one more scene from a different movie. I know I was only suppose to upload one but I really like this assignment. Click Link

I know this scene must look extremely weird, especially for people who have not seen this movie before. But non the less this scene is pretty awesome even though it was not the part I wanted. The dramatic part I was looking for was at the very end but this was okay. The music was well placed and created a great atmosphere for the scene. If you did not have music it would be okay but not as dramatic. Music has an extremely important role in many films and video games because they do great jobs in intensifying their tones and atmosphere that normally may not be their. It is also used to help show how specific characters feel and increase action like in the first video. In fact music is one of the most crucial aspects that films need in order to be successful.

  10. I have so many songs in mind I can't really chose one specifically. If I were to choose any song from a movie it would probably be from the movie Miracle On Ice. Most of the songs in this movie are inspirational and speak perfectly to what the movie is trying to portray. What the team did was special, and the movie built up suspension throughout the movie and eventually revealed the climax moment that made the movie. Along with commentary added into the songs this made the soundtrack one of the best to me.

  11. I think my favorite song that really set the mood to a great movie scene was the song A Little Party Never Killed Nobody from The Great Gatsby! This was a played in a scene when Gatsby was having one of his huge fancy parties and everyones dancing and singing and just having a great time. It was very uplifting and I was thinking to myself I would love to go to a party like that!

  12. I chose a song from The Incredible Hulk-The Lonely Man: The Classic Theme by Joe Harnell. Even though some of the scenes in the video show violence you can feel the sadness that Dr. David Banner/The Hulk feels because his transformation turns him into a monster that can't be controlled so he can't let anyone get close to him.

  13. I chose the song the song from thebegging of Juno. It is a really catchy song and I love to hear it. It really sets the tone for the whole movie because it has a free spirited and teenage feeling which is what the movie is pretty much about.

  14. The theme song for The Good the Bad the Ugly is such a classic Western song. It is the one people think of when they think of a Western movie. And it was the first song that popped into my head.

I chose the song The Circle of Life from The Lion King. I chose this because for one The Lion King is one of the best movies ever. Also i think the song really has a tone of importance and inspiration that truly captures the moment when Simba, the next king, is presented to the kingdom and all the animals. I think that without this sound that the scene wouldnt hold the power that it does.

I'm a big anime fan and an anime I grew up with would be DragonBall Z. This is by far my one of my favorites but what makes it one of my favorites is the soundtrack. The music in this anime is all built around tension and patience. A theme could be playing for hours and the tension will still rise. An example would be Perfect Cell's Theme. After Cell's final transformation, he becomes this over-powered, unbeatable, evil being that no one can stop. To add emphasis on evil, his theme plays out through most of his screen time. His theme is composed in a minor key and it affects the tension in the anime. When ever the song plays, you get this uneasy feeling and you can just tell by the tone of the song that something bad is about to happen. Without the music, it would just be another boring plain ol' bad guy entrance.
