Blog Assignment #3-Your most memorable concert experience

Tell us about one of your favorite concert experiences using complete sentences and reference the topics we have discussed in class if applicable. If you don't have a concert example, find a live performance on youtube and share it with the class, describing what struck you about this video.

As always, if you cannot see the blog for whatever reason, you may email your response directly to me, NO LATER than Wednesday, October 16th at 11 PM.

It is your responsibility to complete this assignment on time. Be as descriptive as possible!

I'll be posting my response as well, happy posting!

PS, here's a helpful image I found online of some of the chords we have studied.

  1. I have never gone to a concert in my whole life as sad as it may sound. I just never understood all the excitement, I mean its not like its a monster truck stadium event or a Godzilla movie. But as instructed I went on you tube and looked up Metallica in concert. There were so many people in a huge stadium and it was packed. I could not believe so many people were in one place and as I saw their excitement on their faces I saw myself. These people were about to experience one of the best moments of their lives. That's what I can relate to the most and it makes me feel something. When the concert began the people were totally amerced in the song and the band. People screaming and chanting got me excited and I enjoyed the song. I'm not sure that I myself would go see a concert any time soon not because I don't like them but because I have not found the right band. Plus my funds are not so good.

The best concert I have ever attended was Brad Paisley's concert at Wrigley Field. It was a very electric concert and used many things that I had never seen before in a concert. However, the thing that stuck with me the most out of the whole concert was how brad paisley involved himself with the crowd. Even though I was on the upper deck I felt like I was in the front row. Also besides being able to shred at the guitar, brad paisley had skits throughout his concert which made it very interactive.
One of my favorite places in the city of chicago is Wrigley Field, and I have been there over 100 times as a kid and throughout my childhood. Being in there for something completely new was fantastic and made me really appreciate the little things. Brad Paisley's music attracts me because he uses a various amount of majors and minors, and tends to destroy the pentatonic scale, specifically in B. That is my favorite concert experience.

My favorite concert/show I've been to was most definitely a Chance The Rapper show at Lollapalooza this year. The entire set was very enthusiastic and had the crowd really hyped up and energized. He had the entire crowd participating in all of his songs and it was overall a great experience. Some of his songs have many various dynamics and tempos in them such as when he was preforming a song named Pusha Man which is upbeat and very joyful at the beginning and then changes into a dark and depressing mood with many different instruments. This is definitely my favorite concert experience since he is also from Chicago and having him play in front of his home town crowd and Lollapalooza giving him one of the smallest stages made it even more fun to watch as it was crowded with many people.

  4. I have not really been to any concerts but I would like to go to one sometime. It would definately would be fun but I just haven't had the chance. I would like being in the huge crowd listening to live music. It would be a great experience and something you have to do at least once in your life.

  5. My Fav. Concert expirence was when I saw Black Sabbath live at lalapalooza. the first song they played was Black Sabbath. I love the beginning of that song because it has the tri-tone. It makes the song seem very dark. Another reason I liked the song was because at the beginning they had a fire animation and a montage of videos and pictures of the band playing. Also this was the first live concert I ever saw

Sadly, I have not been to any concerts. So I went on YouTube to find a video of one and I saw one of Linkin Park preforming in Chicago. When I watched the video I saw the band preforming and lights and smoke and I thought that it looked like a good time. Some songs were also softer than others.

  7. The first live concert I ever went to was when my Dad brought me to hear Shonen Knife. I was a very little kid (1 year old I think) so I do not remember it at all. The most recent performance I've been to is seeing the Flaming Lips at the Pitchfork Music Festival back in 2009. Actually going to the concert live is way better than watching the video. It is a completely different experience. At the beginning of the concert, Wayne Coyne crowd surfed in a giant plastic ball, and then later they shot confetti, streamers and a lot of large inflatable balls. It was incredible!

I haven't been to very many concerts, but one that I really enjoyed was not too long ago. It was, I believe, october last year actually(... maybe?)
A friend of mine bought tickets to see The XX at congress theatre and it was really cool. The opening acts were two weird London indie bands and they were decent, but I dont even remember their names so they clearly weren't that good.
Anyways, The XX was amazing, they use a lot of dramatic dynamic changes in their music and I remember they synchronized the lights to the music and at one point there was this like huge white light that flashed with the drums and it got really crazy.
Mostly their music was really mellow, and it was a really good show, and we ate Potbelly afterwards.

  10. My memorable concert was when I went to Wolfgang Gartner at Concord Music Hall. It was amazing. I went with a group of friends and things couldnt have been better. The music was loud and pumping. I could feel the bass pounding through my body and it was crazy. You know the moment when you wish time stopped? I had that moment there. It made me let loose and be free. I loved it. Best part is that I got to experience it with not only me but everyone in that hall. Everyone was feeling what i was feeling and there was only good vibes. Good vibes equals good times <3 I wish I could relive it. Best day ever with the best people ever. I love concerts :)

  11. I've been to many concerts but one of my favorites was seeing Foals live at The Vic. I was front row and it was amazing. Yannis even came out into the crowd. Foals are one of my favorite bands and i might even see them again in December <3 Their music is brilliant and hearing them live was a life changing experience. I've seen some great concerts but Foals by far were the best. Well.. I saw The Cure too and i guess that The Cure and Foals are on the same level. I just love both bands so much i can't choose one over the other. Seeing The Cure was amazing though because i may never get the chance again. But Foals's songs and the way the concerts atmosphere was amazing. OH! By the way, it's Ally :-)

  12. My favorite concert was the Red Tour Taylor Swift concert. She really knows how to interact with a crowd and get everyone on their feet singing. Sheis also abe to connect to young and older fans. Soldier Field is a huge stadium but it didn't feel like it when I started getting into the songs and having fun. In her songs the dynamics and tempo changed a lot. I like how it works into the song because it makes her song more interesting and unique.

My favorite and only concert that I have attend was Lollapalooza! I went over this summer on Friday and got to see so many different bands at once. The music was so loud and the vibes coming from the people were so good. I loved it. I wore white shoes and when I left there wasn't one white spot left on my shoes, thats how I know just how much fun I had! Next year I'm most definitely getting the 3 day pass because 1 day was such a tease but I had an amazing time.

The only concert I have been to was U2 at soldier field a few years ago. I never really listened to them before the concert but I really liked their music. There was this electrifying energy from the beginning to the end. Near the end of the concert the whole stadium went dark, all you saw were flashes of light from everyone's cell phones, when the intro started for "With or Without You" the crowd went crazy. You could barely hear the band singing because everyone in the stadium was singing along. U2 is one of those bands that spans all generations and they sound even better when you see them live.
